Gotiben

Caring Her Way Up

Gotiben Mansinhbhai, a 19-year-old from Bhorda, a small village in Chhota Udepur, always dreamed of becoming a nurse. Growing up in a family of 14, with her father working as a farmer and her brothers as migrant laborers, life in her village was tough. But Gotiben longed for a better future, not just for herself but also for her family.

Her path to achieving that dream began when she heard about a nursing course offered by Vivek, a program recommended by friends and family. They spoke highly of the course, praising its supportive environment, including the provision of food and accommodation, as well as assistance with job placement. The idea of receiving practical training alongside education, while also having these basic needs taken care of, was an opportunity Gotiben couldn’t pass up.
“The teachers teach well, with both theory and practical training,” Gotiben recalls. “I learned so much, not just from classrooms but from hands-on experience. It gave me the confidence to move forward.”
The quality of the course exceeded Gotiben’s expectations. The teachers made sure to balance theoretical learning with real-world skills, and Gotiben appreciated the practical lessons that prepared her for the challenges of working in the healthcare field. She found nachiketa sessions on resumes and teamwork particularly useful, as they helped her prepare for life beyond the classroom.
“I remember sessions on resumes and teamwork. It helped me so much in understanding what would be expected from me in a professional setting,” she says. “I felt ready for the job market after that.”
While moving away from her village was a big adjustment, Gotiben began to notice positive changes in her. She found independence and confidence in her new surroundings. The support she received from Vivek, both educationally and in terms of food and accommodation, allowed her to focus on her studies without worrying about the basics of daily life.
“SFT-VIVEC provides food and accommodation, and help with jobs. That really helped me feel secure as I focused on my learning,” Gotiben shares. “I didn’t have to worry about where I would stay or how I would manage — I could just concentrate on becoming a nurse.”
Upon completing the course, Gotiben secured a job at Om Hospital in Vadodara, earning Rs6,500 a month. Looking back, Gotiben feels proud of her decision to join the nursing course at Vivek. It not only provided her with the education and skills to pursue her dream but also gave her the support and opportunities needed to make that dream a reality.
