Rathwa Sumaniben

Compassion in Every Step
Rathwa Sumaniben Harsinghbhai, a 19-year-old from Nani Sadhli, Chhotaudepur, grew up in a family where hard work was a way of life. Her parents were farmers and migrant laborers, and her six brothers also worked as laborers. Their livelihood depended on cultivating rice, maize, and peanuts, along with cattle rearing. Despite these challenges, Sumanbeni had a vision for her future—one that involved helping others.
Inspired by a friend from Rozwa village, Sumaniben decided to pursue nursing. “I wanted to serve people,” she shares. After completing her 12th grade in 2024, she enrolled in VIVEC’s General Duty Assistant (GDA) Advanced course, hoping to turn her ambition into reality.
Moving into the hostel was a new experience for her. “At first, I felt a bit new,” she admits, “but I adjusted after a few days.” The structured environment, supportive teachers, and well-balanced lessons helped her settle in quickly. “The accommodation and food are good, and the teachers are excellent,” she says. “Both theory and practical lessons are taught well.” Sumani particularly enjoyed practical training, as it gave her hands-on experience that strengthened her confidence in the field.
Beyond nursing skills, the training also focused on personal and professional development. She attended the Nachiketa session, where she learned about teamwork and resume building. “It was really helpful,” she says, recognizing how these skills would support her in securing a job.
Her time at VIVEC brought personal growth as well. Living with other girls, she found herself adapting to new surroundings, learning independence, and becoming more confident. “I have changed since coming to the hostel,” she reflects. “It’s been a good experience.”
After completing her training, Sumani’s hard work paid off—she secured a job at Om Hospital with a salary of Rs 6,500. While she is excited to begin working, she also has bigger aspirations. She hopes to continue her studies and may pursue GNM in the future.
Looking back, Sumani is grateful for the opportunities she received at VIVEC. “This is a good course, and it can lead to job opportunities,” she says, adding that she would recommend it to her friends. For her, nursing is not just a profession but a way to make a difference, one patient at a time.
